      Data Deletion Instructions

      At FreshMealPlanner, we respect your right to control your personal data. This page explains how to request deletion of your account and personal information.

      How to Request Data Deletion

      Send an Email

      Send an email to support@freshmealplanner.com with the subject line:

      Include Required Information

      In your email, please include:

      • Your account email address (the one you used to sign up)
      • Confirmation statement: "I request deletion of my account and all associated personal data"
      • Optional: Reason for deletion (helps us improve our service)

      Verification (If Needed)

      For security purposes, we may ask you to verify your identity by:

      • Logging into your account
      • Confirming account details
      • Responding from your registered email address

      Wait for Confirmation

      We will process your request within 30 days and send you a confirmation email when deletion is complete.

      What Data Gets Deleted

      ✅ Deleted Data

      • • Account information (name, email)
      • • Login credentials
      • • Saved recipes and favorites
      • • Shopping lists
      • • Meal plans
      • • User preferences
      • • Recipe ratings
      • • Session data and cookies (30-day grace period)

      📋 Retained Data

      • • Billing records (required for tax/legal compliance, typically 7 years)
      • • Transaction history (for accounting purposes)
      • • Anonymized analytics (no personal identifiers)

      * Retained data cannot be linked back to you and is kept for legal/regulatory compliance only.

      Deletion Timeline

      Day 0: Request Received

      We acknowledge your deletion request via email

      Days 1-7: Verification

      We verify your identity and process the request

      Days 8-30: Deletion

      Your data is permanently deleted from our systems

      You receive confirmation that deletion is complete

      Important Notes

      ⚠️ Deletion is Permanent

      Once your data is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Make sure you have saved any information you want to keep before requesting deletion.

      💳 Active Subscriptions

      If you have an active subscription, please cancel it first through your account settings or Stripe customer portal. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel billing.

      🔗 Third-Party Services

      If you logged in via Facebook, you may also need to remove FreshMealPlanner from your Facebook app settings. We can only delete data stored on our servers.

      Facebook: Settings → Apps and Websites → Remove FreshMealPlanner

      🍪 Cookies

      After deletion, you should also clear your browser cookies to remove any locally stored data. Session cookies will automatically expire after 30 days.

      Alternative: Account Deactivation

      If you're not ready for permanent deletion, you can:

      • Cancel your subscription and downgrade to the free plan
      • Stop using the service - your data will remain but inactive
      • Clear your saved data manually (favorites, shopping lists) without deleting your account

      📱 For Facebook Login Users

      If you signed up using Facebook Login, follow these steps to completely remove your data:

      1. Request data deletion from FreshMealPlanner (instructions above)
      2. Go to Facebook → Settings → Apps and Websites
      3. Find "FreshMealPlanner" and click "Remove"
      4. Select "Delete all your activities" when prompted

      This ensures all data is removed from both FreshMealPlanner and Facebook's records.
